Luno is a leading cryptocurrency company with 2.5 million+ customers and a team of 250+ in 40 countries. Headquartered in London, Luno operates across Africa, South East Asia and Europe; making it safe and easy to buy, store and learn about cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Upgrade the world to a better financial system
The way people use and think about money is constantly evolving. The existing financial system was built for a non-digital age, ignoring the needs of the modern individual with many inefficiencies and gatekeepers. We now have technologies that are reimagining how to move money cheaper, faster and safer, cutting out unnecessary intermediaries and accruing all this value back to consumers.
Cryptocurrencies facilitate decentralised, interoperable products and services with a good balance between transparency and privacy, and improved user experiences. Like communication evolving from landlines to mobile phones, money is finally catching up with the information revolution. We believe in leveraging technology to make a meaningful and long-term positive impact on people, no matter who or where they’re from.
Upgrading people’s lives
Money that becomes intelligent and programmable creates a fairer financial system providing more financial freedom overall. Upgrading will empower billions of people, ultimately lowering their cost of living, providing improved economic opportunities, easier access to the existing global online economy, and increasing the value retention of their wealth. This inevitable transition to a new financial system requires safe products and services.
Luno’s Technology
We’re hiring software engineers to join us on our mission to upgrade the world to a better financial system. Our technology roadmap has agile teams or ‘pods’, each focused on exciting functional business area projects.
Some of our pods: Website, Fraud & Compliance, Shield, Cryptosec, and Payments. Our stack: Go, Angular, TypeScript, Kotlin, Docker, Kubernetes, and lots of AWS products.
Curve is ‘connecting money’ by creating an over-the top interface, streaming the way you spend, send, see and save money. The beauty of it is that it does not require you to displace money. Instead it connects all your money into one interface with Read/Write permissions.
The Curve card, powered by the Curve app, allows customers to add all their debit and credit cards into one Mastercard, helping the user manage their money in a whole new way. Users get instant notifications on all their spend, get no currency exchange fees abroad, see all their spend in one place and can switch which card they wish to use for payments, even after completing a purchase. Since launching out of its first Beta in February 2016, the Curve community has swelled to nearly 500,000 customers, growing 40% month-on-month.
We're a supplier of home services (Energy, Telephony, Insurance & Broadband) with around 2% of the UK market, a unique business model and a huge potential to grow.
As an established, 20-year-old British company our challenges are to rebuild whilst continuing to innovate and compete, in order to develop a platform to enable the future growth of the business. We have secured the relevant investment to rebuild in house.
We truly are unique in our proposition and allow our customers to consolidate payments into a single monthly bill by packaging products and services supplied through a network of wholesale partners. Utility Warehouse is the only genuine multi-utility operator in the market providing products and services to households and businesses nationwide.
At the beginning of 2016 we started a fundamental transformation here at Utility Warehouse - driven by the Board, there’s a strong desire to become a modern, agile, UX and tech-led business.
Our product and technology teams are a mix of new joiners and company veterans - a lot of the usual practices and processes still need establishing so it's definitely a good time to join and influence how things shape up in the future. Our current stack includes Go, React, GraphQL, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS and MongoDB.
There's plenty of exciting things to happen here over the next 3-5 years; we have the plan and the budget to make it a good ride.
